I read Witchlanders over Christmas break.  It was a good book, especially for a first novel.  It is about two groups of neighboring people, the Witchlanders and the Baen, who do not get along with each other.  Many years ago, they were at war and the Witchlanders won over the Baen.  This story is told from Ryder’s point of view.  He is a teenage boy whose father died not too long ago and whose mother used to be one of the witches that rule over the Witchlanders.

if you like to read stories of magic, you will like this book, although it’s definitely not a normal kind of magic.  If you like to read the first book in a series before everyone else does, read this book.
